Keep Your Face

Keep your face always toward the sunshine – and shadows will fall behind you. (Walt Whitman) — and ….if I may add a word or two, “You might also get the worst sunburn you have ever had and if you are not careful you could go blind as well.”

William Shakespeare said, “We know what we are but kn ow not what we will be” — unless of course we find ourselves standing on a train track with a train bearing down us rapidly — in that case we surely know that if we don’t get off that track we will be dead ….. so Shakespeare’s little ditty doesn’t cover every situation does it?

Bear Bryant once is quoted as having said, “If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride – and never quit, you’ll be a winner. The price of victory is high but so are the rewards.”

I have a little different take on that one …. “If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride – and never quit, you run a great risk of failing at everything you try no matter how long you try it ….but if you’ve got the money to back yourself up, then you will automatically believe in yourself, you will have the pride and you will never have to worry about quitting …. which means that just the same as the price of victory is high and so are the rewards, having a lot of money pays that high price for victory and becomes a reward in and of itself.

A simplification of the previous statement is, “If you have enough tissues in the box you will eventually get your nose blown.”

The one certainty in life that I can pass on to you is this one: “It doesn’t matter how long you try to copulate the space between the couch cushions, you are never going to produce a child by doing it.”
